OSMO™ is NEMO's proprietary tent fabric — a PFAS-free composite of recycled polyester and nylon yarns, engineered for lasting water repellency without added chemicals. It's the first fabric to combine the benefits of polyester and nylon in a single ripstop weave, built to perform better while reducing environmental impact.

OSMOâ„¢ didn't happen overnight.
For five years, NEMO's team worked with leading mill partners to rethink tent fabric from the ground up — testing yarns, weave structures, coatings, and finishes. More than 100 development samples were produced and refined before OSMO met NEMO's performance requirements across the board. That work is why OSMO now forms the foundation of every core backpacking tent in NEMO's line.
HOW DOES OSMOâ„¢ FABRIC WORK?
OSMO fabrics are a composite of both polyester and nylon yarns.
• Polyester contributes hydrophobicity, low water absorption, and low stretch when wet.
• Nylon contributes tensile strength and tear resistance.
• Together, they deliver water repellency at the fiber level — rather than relying on a chemical coating that wears off over time.
Most tent fabrics force a trade-off: better waterproofing usually means more chemicals, and more durability usually means more weight. OSMO was built to avoid that compromise.
