Wild elements — or unfortunate packing mishaps — can bend your tent pole out of shape. By replacing the wonky segment(s), you’ll get plenty of future use with your tent.

Tools & Materials Needed: 

• Replacement pole segment. If your tent is a NEMO tent, please reach out to our Customer Service team at to request the segments needed. 
• Scissors 
• Clamp (optional) 
  
  

The Fix: 

1. Lay poles out on a flat surface and unscrew the tip of the pole that has a segment in need of replacing.

2. Remove the pole tip closest to the bad segment, undo the shock cord knot, and pull the cord out of the screwed end. 

3. Slide off pole segments until you reach the one in need of replacing; swap in a new segment. (This is a good time to inspect the shock cord; it may become frayed if the break was sharp.) 

 

4. Insert the shock cord back through the removed segments, the shock cord won’t come out of the other end of the pole. Pull off segments until you see shock cord.

 

5. Extend shock cord as far as possible and clamp the cord so it doesn’t recede back into the pole. Feed the excess shock cord through the removed pole segments.

 

6. Pull at least three inches of the end of the shock cord through the screwed end of the other pole tip and tie the shock cord back onto itself. (Pull the knot super tight to minimize slipping.) 

7. Screw the tip back in, unclamp the shock cord, and test to make sure the pole folds down and assembles smoothly.
