The Position: Senior Product Developer

Our office is in an old textile mill in Dover, NH, about 20 minutes from a great surf spot, 15 minutes from historic Portsmouth and about an hour from the White Mountains. The cost of living is reasonable, we have top-notch school systems nearby, and access to cultural destinations like Boston, MA and Portland, ME. We recently relocated within the mill building to a beautiful space built to our specifications, with custom furniture and great natural light. Dogs are welcome.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


• Take a leadership role in the design department, refining our processes, perfecting our development calendar, and driving the team forward to meet key development milestones.

• Ensure NEMO product development supports brings to market products that accomplish our standards for quality, design, and innovation.

• Communicate construction details, drawings, dimensions, and material specifications to vendors and suppliers.

• Create the specification of products including Bill of Materials, costing, and dimensional data; record, track, communicate, and verify accurate specifications across all departments.

• Maintain all records, design files, and samples associated with products.

• Review prototypes, samples, and production for adherence to company quality, design, and execution targets; communicate revisions and changes to manufacturers in a clear, coherent, and efficient manner.

• Plan and manage the product development timelines in alignment with company targets and goals.

• Develop products that meet or exceed margin targets; work closely with vendors and Design to optimize construction details and materials to accomplish cost goals.

• Facilitate intra-department communication between Sales, Marketing, Operations, and R&D.

• Work closely with the Operations department to deliver a complete technical data package for each product; seamlessly transition products from development to production.

• Establish quality standards and procedures based on detailed knowledge and insight of manufacturing process and construction details.

• Establish and maintain best practices and methods for product development, stay abreast of software capabilities, emerging technologies, and development tools.

• Continuously work with suppliers and manufacturers to advance new material development and construction methods.

• Source and screen new domestic and international suppliers and manufacturers.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:


Professional experience in product development is a must. Five or more years of relevant development experience and a broad knowledge of manufacturing techniques are preferred.


SKILLS:


• Proven track record of successful project management and knowledge of the product creation cycle.

• Excellent written and oral communication; experience communicating with domestic and foreign manufacturers.

• Creative problem solving to bring innovative solutions and construction to products.

• Strong work ethic and ability to work independently under general direction; able to meaningfully add to group discussions and work sessions.

• Able to develop long term strategy without becoming burdened by day to day objectives.

• Adobe Creative Suite –intermediate to advanced Illustrator drawing skills for technical and construction detail sketches.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; superhero-like powers in generating easy-to-read comprehensive spreadsheets.

• Meticulously organized with an eagle eye for detecting small details and differences in both products and data; ability to spot red flags amongst a sea of numbers.

• Excellent color perception and ability to detect slight color differences.

• General working knowledge of materials and fabrics.

• Strong working knowledge of manufacturing techniques and sewing construction methods.

• Ability to use strong reasoning, discretion, and good judgment in making product decisions and establishing product development direction.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:


• Domestic and international travel may be required several times per year for 1-2 weeks per trip to visit contract manufacturers and material suppliers in support of product development efforts.

• Passionate about the outdoors, adventure, and conservation.

• Position may require extended work hours prior to concept reviews, tech package handoffs, and other product creation milestones.

The Position: Graphic Designer


NEMO is seeking an energetic Graphic Designer to help generate, implement, and execute visual consistency across all collateral at NEMO. This individual will play an integral role in the concepting, design and production of all NEMO branded materials while adhering to brand strategy and goals. The Graphic Designer will work closely with the Marketing, Sales and Product teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


• Under direction of NEMO’s Art Director, design, update and manage the production of seasonal print collateral (workbooks, packaging, hang tags, product graphics, POP).

• Draw on experience in multimedia and graphic design to develop and maintain a cohesive visual NEMO brand presentation, excellent user experience, and seamless integration across various platforms and technologies.

• Establish and maintain best practices and design methods, stay relevant and trained in rich media techniques.

• Integral part of executing requests from the sales and marketing teams.

• Works cross-functionally with product development, marketing, and sales to execute new product marketing on time with compelling execution.

• Clearly understands the current design landscape including visual aesthetic, typography, and graphic styles.

• Under direction of NEMO’s Art Director, ensure brand position is accurately executed and reflected in all projects, including workbooks, sales sheets, trade show materials, catalogs and advertisements.


Requirements


• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic & Interactive Design.

• 3 or more years of professional multimedia/graphic design.

• Must be detail oriented with an eagle eye for design details, such as typography, alignment, hierarchy, color, and form.

• Exceptional creativity, enthusiasm, team spirit, commitment and professionalism.

• Understanding of and ability to create social marketing content including copywriting, video, photography and keeping consistent with brand positioning.

• Superb communication skills, organized, able to thrive in deadline driven environment, while managing multiple projects at once – willingness to take open and honest feedback as part of the design process.

Mission & Scope:


The primary function of this position is to develop and manage the global demand plan to optimally balance sales, service, and inventory requirements. The Demand Planner will create and maintain a demand forecast model by sales channel, product category, and SKU for the NEMO business, incorporating business intelligence and forecast information gathered from sales, marketing, finance, retailer POS data, and other sources. This position leads a monthly forecast review with the sales channel managers and customer service team to review and update demand forecast model assumptions in a continuous effort to improve forecast accuracy and the overall demand planning process. Additional responsibilities include sales and inventory analysis and reporting to identify sales opportunities and manage inventory levels.

This position reports to the VP of Outdoor and interfaces with all functions and levels of the NEMO organization, as well as with sales reps, distributors, and key retailers.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • • Develop and maintain the global demand plan by sales channel, product category, and SKU to optimally balance sales, service, and inventory requirements.
  • • Review NEMO historical sales and inventory data, market sell through data, and key account POS and inventory data, along with information from the sales, marketing, product, customer service, and finance teams to develop and document a set of assumptions for creation of the demand forecast.
  • • Build the demand forecast and collaboratively test the assumptions.
  • • Lead monthly forecast reviews with NEMO stakeholders to report and investigate variances.
  • • Adjust forecast model assumptions based on new information in a continuous effort to improve forecast accuracy and the overall demand planning process.
  • • Implement any forecast changes resulting from the forecast review.
  • • Identify and lead the implementation of opportunities to improve forecast accuracy.
  • • With the sales team and channel managers, establish a set of rules for “consuming the forecast” and for accepting sales orders for forecasted and un-forecasted demand.
  • • Become the NEMO expert with Netsuite’s Demand Planning module.
  • • Gather and analyze data in support of Product and Sales teams.
    • • Identify and report on any significant variances between forecasted sales and NEMO’s budgets and business plans.
    • • Monitor Available-to-Promise and work with the sales and supply chain teams to address any significant shortages or overages.
    • • Prepare monthly sell-through reports for key accounts showing YTD actual vs forecast and YOY trends. Identify sales opportunities and review with channel managers.
    • • Monitor the sales performance of new products and develop a history that can be used as a guide in future launches.
  • • Work closely with the supply planner to monitor inventory levels and ensure that the supply plan is in alignment with the demand plan.
  • •Provide input to the supply planner in developing inventory strategies for existing items, new products, and product phase-outs.


Requirements


  • • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • • Three or more years of directly relevant work experience, preferably with a consumer products company.
  • • Strong and direct experience with demand planning, sales forecasting, sales analysis, inventory management, business planning, and reporting.
  • • Strong analytical and decision making skills, with a mastery of Microsoft Excel.
  • • Demonstrated ability to independently manage and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

The Position: Engineering Intern


Innovation and quality are core principals of NEMO product design. We are constantly developing new products and maintaining quality on existing products. Product testing is critical to both characterize and understand product performance. We are looking for a summer intern to work in our lab with the design team testing materials, prototypes, and finished products.


The intern will work closely with the design team to execute testing needs, establish new test methods, and document results. While the role will mostly focus on the lab, there will also be some room for product design and engineering oriented tasks. The best fit will be someone with technical abilities, hands-on experience, and an appreciation for product design.

Responsibilities:


  • • Execute testing needs across NEMO’s product lines, which could include measuring tear strengths of fabrics, durability of sleeping pads, and breathability of waterproof fabrics for example.
  • • Understand existing test methods and develop new test methods to answer design or product performance questions.
  • • Build test apparatuses for conducting experiments.
  • • Perform data analysis, meticulous and accurate record keeping, and reporting of results to the team by written report and through meetings led by the intern.
  • • Use product data and analysis findings to suggest improvements to product design.
  • • Participate in design meetings to brainstorm, critique, and troubleshoot new products.

 

Requirements:


  • • Currently enrolled in or recent graduate from a college program with a focus in science, engineering, or industrial design.
  • • Experience performing experiments in a laboratory setting.
  • • Understand data analysis and basic statistics.
  • • Experience using customer insights in product design and development.
